Pepper Anthony: Amazon Bestseller: Interview and Review of Macy's Awakening

I am very excited to have Pepper Anthony on the blog today. On October 17th, 2011 her new release Macy's Awakening came available to  buy as an ebook and she has already made it into the top 100 in erotica on kindle/amazon. That is quite the accomplishment.

*****************

Welcome to Beck’s Book Picks. I am very excited to have you here today.

Tell us a little about yourself?
I’m married, the mother of two grown sons, and I live outside Portland, Oregon. After getting my kids raised it’s finally my turn to pursue my writing career.

Tell us a little about your latest release and how you came up with the idea?
Macy’s Awakening is the story of a young black woman who discovers the joys of sex with her hunky, middle-aged attorney. I’ve always been attracted to the idea of an older man teaching an innocent young woman the ways of the world. It’s a hot idea.

Book Blurb: Ghost lover or mortal—can Mia have both?
Mia has a big problem. She is in love with two people, and one of them happens to be a ghost. After a late night seduction in a deserted library, Mia brings home a haunted book. The book contains a ghost which instructs her to seduce strangers on its behalf. Mia falls in love with one of her conquests and finds herself in a romantic tangle. Can she keep both her lovers, or will she have to choose?

Content Warning: graphic sexual content, including m/f and f/f sexual interaction.

My Thoughts: This is a hot little book. Wow, all you need is one chapter of this book before bed and your good. Mia loves to read erotica (who doesn't once you start). Her computer is broken so she sneaks into the public library at close to get her read in, but she can't get into the computers. She heads to the adult section and find a leather bound book. It turns out a ghost is with this book and Mia no longer has to read as the ghost takes a hold of her and pleasures her. I was a little unsure at first of the ghost thing but the ghost is not the only one that Mia has encounters with. The book instructs her on who to be with. Mia has many, many encounters in this book, which is why I stated, each chapter is good.

I had never read a f/f scene. So this was my first time reading once. I don't have much to go on, but I will say Tabitha did a wonderful job and I give her props for writing it.

At the end of the book, everything ties together. The ending is a bit of a surprise and leaves your heart feeling warm that love lives on no matter what.

If your looking for something that is going to heat you up the right way, well this book will do it. Be sure to check it out.

Book Blurb: Staff Sergeant Travis Donovan is on the hunt for his little sister. Though he hasn't spoken to her in years, his last deployment reminded him how short life is, and it's time to reconnect. Only problem? The one piece of contact information he has, a cell phone number, belongs to someone else now. A woman named Ariel. A woman he can't get his mind off.
Ariel Winston doesn't have time for a man. Her plate is full with work and grad school and family obligations, and she's fine with that. But the innocent friendship she's sparked with Trav, the anonymous texter, can't hurt. Right? It's not like she'll ever meet the guy face to face.
But when these two collide during a night of voyeuristic pleasure, they have decisions to make. Will they balk at what fate has dropped into their laps? Or be willing to look beyond the unique circumstances and enjoy their finite time together?

My Thoughts: I have been stuck in a book rut. I have not wanted to pick up any book lately to read it. So, I decided I wanted to read something of a shorter nature and maybe it would help. I enjoyed this book to the fullest. I finally picked up that book that just caught my attention and grabbed hold of me. Kids leave mommy alone, she is reading! I was very drawn into Ariel and Travis as characters. Ariel who was the more shy quiet kind of girl gave me quite some surprises I was not expecting. I imagined her as this little nerdy girl, glasses and frigid by day and at night, hot student. At least, that is the image I had in my head.

I liked that texting in this book. I really like to see this in books. Texting is such a part of everyones life that I often wish more authors would embrace it. We can relate. People don't call each other for little things anymore.

The romance in this book is hot and steamy and the door definitely stays open. The conflict in this book is believeable. I think this is a great novella for anyone who is a die heart romantic and likes a little more spice then the typical romance novel. Be sure to check this one out.

Book Blurb: The day Miranda Billings dies isn't the worst day of her life—but it's close. Miranda dreams of adventure and escaping her boring existence, but death might be too much of an escape. With the help of Andre the demon slayer, she discovers the excitement she craves. If only he’d let her share his quest as well as his bed.
When Andre, the half-demon EMT, finds the woman he loves crushed by a bus, he reawakens her soul with his magic and his blood. Now, Andre must decide if he’s willing to let her join him in his perilous quest to slay demons and save humans. He almost lost her once. Is he willing to risk losing her forever?

Crystal's Thoughts: Miranda Billings was having one hell of a day.  Loses her job, gets dumped and then to top it all off....she gets flattened by a bus.  That might seem like the end of it for her, but sexy EMT Andre, whom had been crushing on her for some time now, brings her back to life with his handy dandy half-demon powers.  Now with nothing to lose, Miranda has to make a decision.  Stay on the run fighting demons with a man she barely knows whom isn't even human himself, or figure something else out.  The choice seems almost too easy.

I enjoyed this story immensely.  Reading this book was like being able to eat a whole box of chocolate covered cherries but only having the guilt of just one piece.  It was short, but felt like I read a whole story.  The passion between the two characters was amazing, leaving me a little breathless and my heart beating a bit harder.  I enjoyed her descriptiveness but was a little confused sometimes as to which characters mind I was in.  All in all I enjoyed what I read.

Be sure to come back tomorrow, I will have an interview with Carrie, and she was definitely a delight to chat with.

Also, Crystal has ventured to her own book blog. If you have liked her reviews, please go check out her new blog: Musings of and Avid Reader.

Making Her Nights by Keri Ford

Making Her Nights (Uninhibited in Apple Trail, Arkansas)

Genre: Contemporary Romance/ Erotica novella
Series: Uninhibited in Apple Trail, Arkansas #4 (can be read alone)
Reviewed For: Publisher and Author

My Rating:

Book Blurb: Chief Deputy Mike Gabel is the man in charge in Apple Trail. No one gives him more trouble than a certain blonde. While her stunts are frustrating to deal with, it’s the constant way she keeps him trapped in knots.
Tiffany McBride has a reputation for being a trouble maker. She’s been betting and causing trouble since her parents died when she was a teenager. What looks like a young woman sewing her oats, it’s actually desperate measures to gamble for extra money to put food on the table.
When these two acknowledge their attraction, sparks fly…that is if Mike’s public position can survive Tiffany’s frowned upon reputation.

My Thoughts: I have been anxiously awaiting to get my hands on this book. I have been so lucky to have been given the chance to read each book Keri Ford has written for this series. This one was no let down either. In my weeks of waiting and finally loading it on my e-reader, then finally getting lost in it, I was satisfied. In fact, Keri's humor continues to grow. While reading this book, I spit my coke out. Keri knows how to weave a tale of two characters so hot for one another and then brings you to the point of falling on the floor laughing.

In this book, Mike gets his turn. In past books, Mike has been there in the background since he is police chief of this small town. One girl has driven him crazy for years, and she happens to be one of those who causes the most trouble, Tiffany McBride. Mike is a very controlled man, who does everything by the book. Tiffany breaks him down. I do have to say, I saw a side of him I hadn't expected in the intimate scenes. However, I am not giving that away, just like I am not giving away what make me spit my coke out.

I believe the next book in this series will be out in August. I am super excited about this one since the main girls name is Rebecca. I can't see what kind of trouble she gets herself into, especially since there was a small excerpt in the back of this book.

Book Blurb: Sean Kowalski no sooner leaves the army than he’s recruited by Emma Shaw to be her fake fiancĂ©. Emma needs to produce a husband-to-be for her grandmother’s upcoming visit, and, though Sean doesn’t like the deception, he could use the landscaping job Emma’s offering while he decides what to do with his civilian life. And, despite his attraction to Emma, there’s no chance he’ll fall for a woman with deep roots in a town he’s not planning to call home.
Emma’s not interested in a real relationship either; not with a man whose idea of home is wherever he drops his duffel bag. No matter how amazing his “pretend” kisses are

My Thoughts: This is the second book I have read in the Kowalskis series. These boys just keep getting better. Sean was Mr. Perfect in my opinion and Emma chose the right man to be her pretend finace. I really liked that these two did not fight their attraction for one another. They gave in but told each other this was only temporary, so for now they could enjoy one another. The sparks flew off my e-reader each time they were in a room together. I enjoyed reading as they each took the plunge to love. Even better, I liked how the grandma and Aunt Mary were  in on it too. It left me smiling watching these two do a dance around one another, fighting their true feelings, as these two older women sat back and had a good chuckle.

I really like this authors style of writing. I believe this is my third story of hers I have read, and each time I have enjoyed it. If you have not read a Shannon Stacey book, I think this one is my favorite so far. I was definitely recommend this one. I laughed so much during this one and could picture each scene in my head as it happend.

Book Blurb: Skye Miller is so tense, not even a full set of tennis can unwind her tight muscles—her tension heightened by a raging summer storm that grips the town. But a hot and sweaty set of tennis is not the physical exercise she craves, nor will the pounding rain erase her pain. Thank the sex gods above she remembers a possible remedy just up the street. And he’s already posed the invitation.

Crystal's Thoughts: Very good short.  Loved the fact that you are left wondering about things until the end. She ties it all up neatly with a sweet little bow, and a girly giggle from me.  I found myself drawn to the characters immensely, chuckling throughout and I was satisfied at the end.  Well written!

Forever After by Deborah Raney

Forever After: A Hanover Falls Novel

Genre: Christan Romance

My Rating:

Book Blurb: A fire killed his best friend and his lifelong dream of being a firefighter. The same fire killed her husband and hopes for a family. Can new dreams replace old?
Lucas Vermontez was a proud firefighter like his father. Now, not only has he lost his father and his best friend, Zach, in the fire at the Grove Street homeless shelter, but the devoted rookie can no longer do the work he loves after being crippled in the tragic event. When friendship with his buddy’s beautiful widow turns into more, he wonders, what could he possibly offer Jenna? Jenna Morgan is trying to grieve her husband’s death like a proper widow, but the truth is, she never really loved Zach. His death feels more like a relief to her. But that relief is short-lived when she loses her home and the financial support of her in-laws. Now the secrets of her past threaten to destroy her future.
Can the two forget the painful past and discover new reasons to live and love?

My Thoughts: This was a very heartwarming story, that was impossible to put down. I had to know what was going to happen to Zach and to Jenna.  Each of them was going through so much in their lives as they hit the one year mark where Lucas lost his father and partner in a fire, and Jenna lost her husband, whom was Lucas's partner. Lucas is left not able to work as a firefighter and may never be able too.  When seeing Jenna again, he wants her, but knows how wrong this is. However somehow the two lives keep interweaving and a friendship builds. One they each want more of, but Jenna is hesitant. Jenna is learning who she is. Her in-laws are rich and controlling and she has to learn to break free from them and stand up for herself.

This book is remarkable. We see each character change and grow. These two come together in the end and as a reader it just warms you hears. Your happy and excited to see these two get their happy ending. I did not read book 1 in this series called Almost Forever. I am sure it is the background story to this book, however not positive. When I was contacted to review this, I was told I was able to review this one as a standalone and they were correct.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes christan romance and a good clean heartfelt romance. No hanky panky in this book, only a little kissing. I think you will enjoy it as much as I did though!

Beg For Mercy by Jami Alden

Beg for Mercy
Publication Date: June 1st, 2011
Genre: Thriller/ Romantic Suspense
Series: Book 1 of Trilogy

My Rating:

Book Blurb: Megan Flynn thought she was falling in love. Cole Williams wasn't just handsome and passionate, he was one of the good guys. Or so she thought, until he arrested her brother - the only family she has left - for a murder she knows he couldn't have possibly committed. Now, with her heart broken and her brother's life hanging in the balance, Megan will risk everything to prove his innocence. Even if that means throwing herself into the path of a sadistic killer with a hauntingly familiar MO.
Seattle Detective Cole Williams had given up on making Megan see reason where her brother is concerned. But when she insinuates herself into the most shockingly brutal case Cole has ever worked, he can't stand idly by. Plunged into a secret world where the city's elite indulge their darkest desires, Cole will do whatever it takes to bring down a madman who has made Megan his most coveted prey.

My Thoughts: This book was tough to put down. Once I sat down and began this book, there was no turning back. This is one of those books where I can not go into too much depth in review without giving away a lot of the book. I really enjoyed reading about Megan fighting to prove her brothers innocence, even when he had already given up.

Some scenes in this book were graphic. This author takes you into scenes with the murderer. Its one of those book where you just think this guy is sick and can't belive you just read what you did. An example would be that the killer kills the women while he is having sex with them and the author goes into depth on the sex scene along with how the girls are being killed.

Even though I had the killer figured out from the beginning, it didn't take away from the enjoyment of this story. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a book that is really going to real you in. If you can get past the graphic parts, your going to stay up late into the night with this one.

Book Blurb: Ace McAllister used to be what Greer Patrick lived for. Now ten years later, he’s how she stays alive. Caught together outside during an F-3 tornado, they shield each other from the wrath of the storm. But, with their sizzling reunion, is Ace’s truck the only thing that’s blown away?

My Thoughts: This was like a short story erotica, meets contemporary romance, meets western romance all in a short 30 something pages on my Sony E-Reader. Greer and Ace have a history that spans out for 10 years in this book. They are right for one another, but Ace wants one thing from Greer, and she is having a hard time giving it to him, she is too concerned with what others think of her. The two are drawn to one another and sparks fly anytime the touch each other.

I really enjoyed this short story. As I mentioned in a previous review, I like this writers style. I would love to get lost in a 300 page book by this author and spend more time with some of these characters. She reminds me a lot of another favorite author, Keri Ford. She can weave such a tale in just a few short pages and leave you feeling as though you read a whole book.

Keep your eye out for this one to load up on whatever e-reader you prefer.

My Thoughts: Short stories can often be harder to review, however this one is easy; it was great! When I first sat down to read this, I was a little unsure, reading the blurb seeing that this dealt with people meeting a total stranger and then being together. Honestly I thought, this is so unlikely and  I doubt I will feel the chemistry between the two. I was wrong. I think a lot of it had to do with the author, her writing is very good. She really knows how to write a good story and draw you in. In each short story I was caught up with the couple as they found themselves drawn to one another. I wasn't left thinking that this would never happen.

I think anyone who enjoys short, quick, and to the point stories, this one will be a hit for sure. I can't read wait to read another story by this author!

Book Blurb: Three steaming short stories--Steam, Sizzle and Scorch--to satisfy your quick fix for an erotic read. Perfect for your lunch hour or your afternoon break! Got your cell phone reader app?

Steam leaves you wanting in the sauna.
Sizzle takes you to the boardroom after hours.

When You Dare by Lori Foster

My Rating:

Book Blurb: The tougher they are, the harder they fall…
Professional mercenary Dare Macintosh lives by one hard and fast rule: business should never be personal. If a cause appeals to him and the price is right, he'll take the mission he's offered. But then the lovely Molly Alexander asks him to help her track down the men who'd had her kidnapped—and for the first time, Dare's tempted to combine work with pleasure.
Fiercely independent, Molly vows to trust no one until she's uncovered the truth. Could the enemy be her powerful, estranged father? The ex-fiancé who still holds a grudge? Or the not-so-shy fan of her bestselling novels? As the danger heats up around them, the only anchor Molly has is Dare himself. But what she feels for him just might be the most frightening thing of all

My Thoughts: I loved it! Such a refreshing read and for me a very different Lori Foster. So far most things I have read from her are your normal romantic comedies that we all love. She took this book to the next level and added a more complex situation. Molly was kidnapped by men who stole woman and sold them off as slaves and then the women were usually killed. You are instantly sucked in this plot. Molly is an extraordinary character in my opinion to have bounced back so quickly from this and was ready to find out who had done this to her, since her kidnapping had been arranged by someone and that was why she had been treated differently then the other women. If I had been through what Molly had, I would have crawled in a hole and cried for weeks. Then again, having someone like Dare probably helped.

I loved Dare's character. He was this man, a manly man who carries weapons and kills people, and when he's as home, he's a neat freak! It caught me off guard. I had expected him to be a total slob. He won major points in my book. As a character he was so understanding and put Molly's needs above his own.

Anyone who is a Foster fan is going to enjoy this one. If Lori Foster is an author you have yet to try, you will not be disappointed in this one. I recommend this book to anyone who likes contemporary romance, or even a romantic suspense.

I have the honor to get to review the next book in the series, Trace of Fever, so be sure to check back soon for that review. I can't wait to start it.
