How do you deal with book disappointment?

Do you hate it when you are so psyched about an author you have read about and can't wait to get your hands on one of their books; you finally do and you can't wait to dive into the book, only to get let down!!! Only to think, wow the cover was so catching, i have been reading rave reviews about this author. Yet, this book just isn't what i was hoping for. Is it because i put too much hype into the author or maybe the book itself? To the books defense, this particular book hasn't been one i have read reviews for, as it is i think her first one she wrote. So, i am winding down the book into the last 150 pages. Hoping to finish it sometimes today. Hoping in these last few pages to be blown away. It has happened, so one can hope!

So, has the often happened to you?

This has been happening to me a lot lately...I've been giving up more easily. Life is too short to read bad books!

i hate when this happens, it's so disappointing.

I feel bad not finishing a book, i keep hoping it will get better, but if im 200 pages in and still it bores me rigid i doubt it will get better, that happened to me recently with a book i'd anticipated reading after all the great reviews. It was Urban Fantasy a genre i enjoy, but i find with UF it's hit and miss.
I was disappointed but i had to give it up and review it as a DNF.

It's even more sad when you've loved a series and say 10 books in it just falls flat and you want to give the series up and feel you're far too invested in it, that's happened a few times too =P

Happy reading! this was a great post :)

I try not to fall for the "hype" for just this reason. Since almost all of the books I read are bought by myself it is a crying shame when find a book, or book series if have bought the whole thing, that had such great potential in the premise the author created. Then you get the actual book and even though the story premise is still good the actual telling of the story is not!
Have read a few lately like that and while enjoyed the books once finished they were slow going to get through and will not read again!

Have to say though that these books are new-to-me authors so maybe the next time they release a book it might be better, maybe!

I have always made myself read to the end of a book even if I didn't like it. For some reason, I felt I owed it to the author who had put far more work into writing it than I had to put into reading it. Then I started blogging about books and reading other blogger's reviews. In a very short time I had over 300 books on my tbr list and it keeps growing. I decided at that point that it was just wasting time to read a book I had lost interest in. The only time I feel guilty about it is when it's a well-loved author or a classic. You know, all those books we're supposed to like. I didn't finish a John Updike book and I will admit I felt like a failure. In the past few months there have been four books I didn't finish and it's getting a little easier each time. And for every one I don't finish I'm finding a dozen new authors/titles that I love. I'm just so performance oriented that not finishing what I start seems the height of irresponsibility. Isn't it awful the baggage we put on ourselves?
Thanks for asking this question. It's made me re-examine why I read and what I read and I'm grateful for the chance to put it down in words.
This is my first time on your blog, so it's nice to meet you!
